Catalina Hooser was a beloved Regis University graduate who died too young, just a year after graduating in 2015 with a degree in sociology and a minor in peace and justice studies. She is remembered for her passionate advocacy for social justice issues, her strong leadership, her humor, and her deep loyalty as a friend. Catalina earned others’ respect by leading with humility, accepting others and being open to genuine dialogue and discourse. She helped bring out the best in others.
The Catalina Hooser Scholarship Fund was created to honor her legacy. It seeks to support undocumented, first-generation and/or students coming from mixed status families for whom the pursuit of higher education can present extra challenges. Even the most tenacious of students encounter setbacks, and a small amount of support can make a significant difference in helping them persevere to accomplish their dream of achieving in higher education. As one recipient put it, “Your contribution is much more than simply a dollar amount, it’s an investment in our future—to help us move forward in life."
