We know that internships are one of the best ways for students to explore their passions, purpose, strengths and values as well as apply their learning in the field. Internships help students to develop career readiness competencies that complement their classroom learning. Thus, academic internships give students a chance to prepare for a purposeful future. Common barriers to completing an internship include having to work to pay for college, unpaid or underpaid internships and transportation issues. These barriers disproportionately impact first-generation students, low-income students and students of color, all of whom benefit from the mentoring, skills development, networking and increased social capital that internships offer. Your gift will enable us to continue the Internships for the Common Good Fund and offer students the Denver minimum wage ($18.30/hour) to intern for 120 hours over the academic semester, the minimum number of hours required for academic credit.
