Gifts to Encountering God & Others: UMin Retreats & Immersion Experience contribute to...
The mission of University Ministry (UMin) is to journey with our campus community as we seek God in all things and explore the intersection of faith, spirituality and justice. Our retreat and immersion programs provide concrete opportunities for all Regis University students, regardless of faith or spiritual backgrounds, to encounter a sense of the sacred and learn how they are uniquely called to accompany those on the margins and advocate for justice.
Overnight retreats and Days of reflection:
- Connections: One-night retreat for first-year students to meet new people and examine their transition to college.
- Hearts on Fire: Two-night retreat, Catholic in theme and practice, dedicated to the devotion of the Sacred Heart incorporating Jesuit tradition, Ignatian spirituality and mini-pilgrimages around Denver.
- Kairos: Two-night retreat, invites students to explore their relationship with God, self and others and how these relationships inform how they move and engage in the world.
- Silent Retreat: One-night retreat, rooted in Ignatian spirituality, the Silent Retreat is a chance to step away from the busyness, noise and demands of college life to spend time listening to God and self.
- Womxn in Faith: Day of Reflection, an inter-sectional and inter-spiritual retreat, centering the experiences of women. Co-hosted with the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies.
- Sacred Stories: Day of Reflection, an exploration of God’s activity in our unique sacred histories through story sharing, recognition and affirmation of God’s movement in each other’s stories, and growing in community.
- Explore: Day of Reflection, a day hike in Golden Gate Canyon inviting us to explore the ways nature calls us to rest, renewal, and relationship.
Immersion and Advocacy Experiences:
- Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice (IFTJ), an annual gathering in Washington, DC for members of the Ignatian family to be educated, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that “sees faith and justice integrally linked.” Two days of learning culminated in Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, lobbying for justice issues with elected officials.
- East Los Angeles immersion, a spring break immersion trip to Dolores Mission Parish and Homeboy Industries in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of east Los Angeles. Students learn about community organizing and working in solidarity with others to become change agents.
- Urban Plunge, an overnight experience in downtown Denver familiarizing students with the realities of urban poverty and homelessness. Students engage with organizations operating in solidarity with those experiencing poverty and those who are unhoused.
