The positive impact of post-secondary education on life outcomes is well-documented. Historically, people with intellectual disabilities have had low rates of engagement in higher education, which has limited their access to career opportunities, often resulting in poverty. Regis University’s GLOBAL Inclusive Program is a collegiate academic certificate program for people with intellectual disabilities. The academic coursework and career exploration aim to prepare students for employment and independent living with the overall goal of self-sufficiency in adulthood.
The program offers comprehensive programming in five key areas:
- Academics
- Physical and emotional wellness
- Social engagement
- Career development
- Self-determination and independent living.
We maximize inclusion in all aspects of the program; students take courses and engage in college life alongside their peers without intellectual disabilities.
The program provides extensive support to ensure students successfully navigate college life, including:
- Academic Success Coach: provides program-specific advising and curricular programming
- Educational Support Specialist: provides student tutoring and instructor support
- Peer Mentors and Tutors: specially trained undergraduate students that support coursework, social engagement, and wellness.
- Career Development Specialist: facilitates career-specific coursework options, internships, and job placement upon graduation
- Community Assistants: specially trained peer mentors that support students living on campus
The GLOBAL Inclusive Program is made possible through philanthropic gifts and public funds supporting people with intellectual disabilities. The program aims to expand access to those unable to afford college tuition through financial aid and scholarship
