The Father Shelton Fund:
The Father Shelton Student Support Fund provides students in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience financial assistance to pursue their academic and research endeavors. The mission of the fund is to promote exceptional undergraduate scholarships and experiential learning for psychology and neuroscience students. Students are granted these awards to advance a specific psychology or neuroscience scholarly research project, participate in a psychology or neuroscience conference, or defray the cost of membership to national honor society organizations.
The Father Shelton Student Support Fund was started by the generous support of donor and Triple Alumna Lucie Tran (BS , MBA, and MNM ). The fund is named to honor Father Charles Shelton, a Professor of Psychology at Regis who passed away in 2014 after 26 years of teaching and many years serving as a chaplain to the Regis men's soccer and baseball teams. Father Shelton was a beloved professor, mentor, and Jesuit. He was known for providing encouragement, good humor, and support to his students and athletes.
This fund supports the academic and research endeavors of our future leaders and enables the Department of Psychology & Neuroscience to promote and foster experiential undergraduate learning through a wide range of research and activities in the psychology and neuroscience fields. In the past few years, awards from this fund have enabled students to travel Chicago, Anaheim, San Diego and Salt Lake City to present their research at professional conferences including the Society for Neuroscience and the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association.
These are but two examples of the opportunities recently made possible by the Father Shelton Student Support Fund. The opportunities provided by this fund are the impactful, life-changing experiences that open doors for our students, including entrance to graduate programs and their chosen careers. These opportunities are cherished among our alumni and motivate them to give back to Regis and help provide such opportunities for our current students.
