Gifts to Porter Billups Tech-Stars Computer Training contribute to...
The Porter-Billups Leadership Academy Sci-Tech camp helps at risk inner-city students from Denver build a comfort level and basic competency in computer science and information technology related fields. Your gift to this important program on Regis Gives Day could inspire an at-risk student to pursue a career in the tech field.
The Sci-Tech camp is a partnership between the PBLA and Anderson College of Business and Computing’s Common Good Network. The innovative program delivers a CompTIA A+ curriculum to students, which focuses on developing computer hardware and software related skills. Students are given the opportunity to pass a CompTIA A+ Certification test. If they pass, the PBLA students will be able to help pay for their post-secondary education working as computer technicians, a high salary field for college students. In addition, the certification is accepted at area junior colleges for concurrent enrollment credit.
There are three major areas of funding needed to successfully deliver a PBLA Sci-Tech camp in 2022:
- Licensing for the CompTIA A+ curriculum and tests
- Instructor Stipends - for the classes to count toward college credit they must be taught by a Certified CompTIA instructor.
- Computer tools and equipment for repairing experimental computers.
Your donation of any size on Regis Gives Day will help PBLA students increase their technology competency and could assist them in gaining access to a high paying tech career after graduation. We hope you will consider a donation to this program to help our local Denver students!
